Is a signature image the same as a digital signature?

No. A transparent PNG or SVG is a picture of a handwritten mark. A cryptographic digital signature uses keys, certificate or identity processes and verification data to protect integrity and support authentication. The Dhrub Free Tools maker draws and exports an image locally; it does not verify identity, witness consent, lock a document or create a signing certificate.

Choose the export for the destination

PNG stores the mark as pixels and is commonly accepted by document and image software. Its transparent background lets the page colour show through, but resizing a small raster image far upward can soften edges.

SVG stores drawing paths and remains sharp when scaled. Some upload portals block SVG because it is an active XML-based format or accept only JPEG and PNG. Follow the exact file-type rule published by the destination.

  • Use PNG when compatibility matters most.
  • Use SVG only where the recipient explicitly accepts it.
  • Keep an untouched copy of the document before placing any image.
  • Do not share a reusable signature file more widely than necessary.

Consent, identity and legal effect

Adding a signature picture can have consequences, but the image alone does not prove who placed it, whether the document changed later or whether the person consented. Laws and organisational rules differ by jurisdiction and transaction.

Use the signing method required by the receiving authority, employer, bank, court or contract. When verified electronic execution is required, use an approved service or certificate-based workflow rather than this image maker.

Important limitations

  • The exported image has no identity verification, witness, certificate or tamper-evident link to a document.
  • A receiving portal may reject transparent images, SVG files or particular pixel dimensions.
  • Anyone who obtains the downloaded image may be able to copy and reuse it.
  • The tool does not advise whether an image signature is legally sufficient for a transaction.

Why does the preview show a checkerboard?

The checkerboard makes transparency visible. It is not drawn into the downloaded PNG or SVG.

Can this sign a PDF securely?

No. You can place the image with suitable software, but that does not create a cryptographic PDF signature or protect the PDF from later changes.

Which format should I choose?

Choose PNG for broad compatibility. Choose SVG when the destination explicitly accepts it and you need clean scaling.
